KooGa has been extremely proud to be associated with the QLD football teams they sponsor as both the QLD Reds and Brisbane Lions took to the Brisbane region to assist and support the QLD flood victims over the past two days.
Putting the community first both the Lions and Reds have sacrificed training and travel to assist with the aftermath of the nation’s most devastating natural disaster.
With both club grounds affected by masses of water the teams have put their strength to the test in the states biggest clean up effort seen since the 1974 historical flood.
Focusing on the needs of the community the teams have shown selfless QLD spirit.
"Now it's about getting into recovery mode and when the waters go down, I encourage everyone to pitch in and help," Brisbane Lions Coach Michael Voss said.
The floods have had a dramatic impact on all Queenslanders. Both clubs and staff have friends and family who have been evacuated or have a story to tell of how they have been affected.
Whilst Reds players filled sandbags, Brisbane Lions players spent their time visiting the RNA Showgrounds evacuation centre to speak with some of the flood victims.
With many players making their own contributions to the Premiers Disaster Relief Fund some have helped by offering their time to assist with Brisbane’s fundraising telethon. Both Rob Simmons & Rod Davies were seen manning the phones while the Faingaa twins have announced they will donate their first match payments from the Super Rugby season to the flood cause.
The ARU is donating $50,000 to the flood relief appeal and is also working with the QLD Reds on other measures that will further support the communities affected.
The sporting community of Queensland has been hit hard by the floods; some of the clubs/grounds affected were the new state-of-the-art AFLQ headquarters, Suncorp Stadium and the Pat Rafter Arena.
