KooGa Ambassador and Kiwi captain Benji Marshall took time out from his teams rigorous training schedule yesterday ahead of what is poised to be a mighty clash against the Kangaroos at Skilled Park Stadium this coming weekend. Marshall joined forces with Coach Stephen Kearney and team-mates Nathan Fien, Lance Hohaia, Lewis Brown and Ruben Wiki on a KooGa-sponsored school visit.

The intimate event aimed at approximately 70 Sports Excellence and Rugby League students of Palm Beach Currumbin State High School on the Gold Coast set the scene for the Kiwi’s team mates to engage with students in a more personal setting and share advice about the players own experience in the game, school life and what it takes to achieve the players and students shared dream of becoming professional rugby league players.

The event also allowed time for students to quiz players on their personal and professional strategies heading into a game, namely the ANZAC Test taking place on the Gold Coast this weekend.

Palm Beach Currumbin State High has an outstanding rugby league heritage and has produced top performing players such as NZRL player Sam Perrett, Darius Boyd, Ben Hannant and Kevin Proctor. Palm Beach Currumbin High School Director of Sports and Titans Under 20’s Training Coach Rod Patison was on hand yesterday to lead the discussions and link the Kiwi’s valuable feedback back to the receptive students in the room.

Post event Kiwi captain and KooGa Ambassador Benji Marshall thanked KooGa for organizing the event saying “it was a great initiative and way to engage with the kids” he felt the teams message really resonated with the students.

KooGa Managing Director Tyron Brant said “This event wasn’t so much about us, it was about linking the KooGa sponsored Kiwi’s with a school we partner with to educate students and give back to the Rugby League fraternity”.

After spending the valuable time with students the Kiwi players moved onto an open training session at Pizzey Park in Burleigh heads.

The Kiwi’s can be seen in action this Friday 6th May as they take on the Kangaroos’ at Skilled Park Stadium from 8pm.
